Specialist Eye Injection Treatment in Grand Cayman
Intravitreal injections are one of the most effective treatments available for a range of sight-threatening retinal conditions. They involve the delivery of medication directly into the vitreous, the gel-like substance inside the eye, allowing treatment to reach the retina precisely where it is needed.
The most widely used intravitreal medications are anti-VEGF agents, which block a protein called vascular endothelial growth factor. VEGF drives the growth of abnormal blood vessels and causes fluid leakage beneath the retina, both of which can lead to rapid and serious vision loss. By blocking this protein, anti-VEGF injections can stop the growth of abnormal vessels, reduce swelling, and in many cases stabilise or improve your vision.
Intravitreal injections are used to treat wet age-related macular degeneration (wet AMD), diabetic macular oedema (DMO), retinal vein occlusion, and other conditions where abnormal blood vessel growth or fluid leakage threatens your sight.
At Eye Health Clinic Cayman, our consultant ophthalmologists provide intravitreal injection therapy in George Town, Grand Cayman, as part of a personalised, consultant-led treatment plan.
What to Expect
The idea of an eye injection can feel daunting, but most patients find the procedure far more comfortable than expected. The eye is numbed using anaesthetic drops, and the injection itself takes only a few seconds. Most patients feel only mild pressure, and the entire appointment is usually complete within 15 to 20 minutes.
Treatment typically begins with a course of monthly injections, after which your consultant will monitor your response using OCT imaging and adjust the frequency accordingly. Some patients transition to a “treat and extend” schedule, where intervals between injections are gradually increased based on how your eye responds. Your consultant will explain the treatment plan clearly and monitor you closely throughout.
